Enhancing User Engagement:
Implement personalized activation journey by diseases

Background

The core value that our App provides to users is the ability to record their body data, helping them manage their health. Therefore, getting users to "start recording diary" and "continue recording" are important.

Performance Tracking

Through the effectiveness of Phase 1: Beginner’s Guide, we can discover:

  1. After registering, 59.1% of users did not create any diary within 1 month.

  2. After registering, 27.7% of users created 2 or more diary within 1 month.

Opportunities

  1. After launching the Beginner’s Guide, the conversion rate of users manually recording more than 2 diary entries in the first month increased.

  2. The retention rate for users who recorded more than 2 manual diary entries in the first month reached 77.14%.

Assumption from Performance

Our target audience are users who want to record a diary but haven’t started yet, possibly for the following reasons:

  1. They don't know what to record, so they haven't started.

  2. They don't have the devices (e.g., glucose monitor meter, blood pressure meter, body weight scale) and are unsure how to record diary without them.

  3. They are not sure how often or how frequently they should record.

Goal

“ Simplifying Diary Entry for Personalized Health Tracking”

The Diary Entry Guide aims to lower the barrier to starting a diary by providing context-aware, personalized suggestions. By considering users’ health conditions, body data, and available measuring devices, this feature helps them log relevant information effortlessly, making diary recording more intuitive and actionable.

As a User, why will whey need...

  • As a user, I can know what items I should record so I can start keeping a diary.

  • As a user, I can know the recording frequency for each week to help me maintain consistent records.

  • As a user, I can check how many times I've recorded this week to track my progress towards the goal.

  • As a user, I can find out how to record my information effectively and accurately.

  • As a user, I can reset the Diary Entry Guide to get recommendations based on my current status.

Design Arrangement

➊ Diary Entry Guide – Entry Point

To help users find a way to create their own guide after they start wondering how to record effectively based on their condition and available devices, the design strategy should provide clear and appropriate guidance. This will build users’ trust in the guide and encourage them to follow its recommendations for diary recording.

For the design placement, the “Diary Entry Guide” button will be positioned at the top of the menu that appears after users tap “Add Diary.” This ensures clear guidance for those unsure how to start, helping them confidently create a guide suited to their situation, making diary recording more structured and efficient.

➋ Trust-Based Personalized Onboarding

To help users easily create a personalized Diary Entry Guide, we use a trust-based personalized onboarding strategy.

Through progressive onboarding, users gradually enter their personal health data (such as age, height, and weight) and available devices (such as glucose meters, blood pressure monitors, and weight scales). This ensures that the collected information is tailored to their needs, allowing the system to generate a customized recording guide.

To build trust and engagement, the experience design features a nutritionist character with visuals and animations to create a professional, reliable, and friendly onboarding experience. This helps users understand the value of the guide and feel confident in following its recommendations for diary recording.

This design not only reduces the learning curve but also uses adaptive personalization to provide the most relevant guidance. It helps users overcome the uncertainty of “not knowing how to start recording”, increasing engagement and long-term usage. Ultimately, it makes diary recording a natural part of daily health management.

Lottie Animation

Using the imagery of body measurement and a scale, we clearly and simply communicate to users: “We need your personal data.

Using the imagery of a scale, glucose meter, and blood pressure monitor, users intuitively associate it with device-related questions.

Using a professional nutritionist image, the animation illustrates creating a personalized diary guide based on user data and devices.

➌ Enhancing Recording Motivation: Personalized Guide and Empathy Validation

The guide clearly indicates the required number of recordings per week, helping users understand how to effectively manage their physiological data based on their own condition, increasing their engagement. It also integrates H2 Health Educator content, allowing users to better understand the importance and value of recording frequency, encouraging them to keep recording consistently.

Additionally, for empathy validation, a lightweight design is used during the testing phase to observe whether users show positive behavior when they see others recording in the same way. This helps assess whether this perception effectively motivates users to continue recording.

Usability test

After conducting usability testing, we have identified the following priority iterations to implement before the official launch:

  1. Enhance Module Click-ability :
All five participants did not actively click on the panel area. Even when they noticed it, they preferred to explore other pages and features first. Therefore, we need to strengthen the “clickable” imagery of the module to make it more obviously interactive.

  2. Clearly Indicate Personal Data Sources and Usage:
Clearly Indicate Personal Data Sources and Usage: Users are sensitive about the sources of their personal data. We should clearly indicate where the data comes from and how it will be used to enhance user trust.

  3. Provide Evidence-Based Health Education Information or Explanations of Recording Methods:
Through visual reinforcement, offer evidence-based health education information or explanations of recording methods. This will help users understand the reasons and value behind recording, thereby increasing their willingness to participate.
